Kappa is an aquatic youkai from Japanese folklore! Generally the size and shape of a human child, yet despite their small stature they are physically stronger than a grown man. Live in rivers, lakes and ponds, but they never hesitate to come ashore in search of their prey. It can be both beneficial and harmful, the Japanese people believe there are a few ways to protect yourself against an evil kappa. The best way to subdue a kappa is to bow your head several times, as the Japanese do. Since this is an unusual form of courtesy, the kappa will feel obliged to bow its head in response. After several bows, all of the liquid (which gives it its powers and strength, other than water) will have poured out of the top of its skull and it will be forced to return to its aquatic home. Another strategy for placating a malicious kappa is to feed it cucumbers, as this is its favorite food. In this artwork represented together there is a fish called Tai(sea bream) a symbol of good luck!
